River Read's Poetry Slam

http://riverread.org

Several HCS high school students are currently competing in River Read 2014's Poetry Slam competition. They're currently competing in the second round, which is taking place on YouTube.

As part of River Read’s Poetry Slam competition, students attended a workshop with CCU's PEACE club and performed in a poetry showcase at the university. Those performances are now on YouTube and the students are looking to get likes for their videos. You can view the videos in the playlist embedded below.

The three performers whose videos receive the most likes by midnight April 9 will be invited to slam on Center Stage in front of a much bigger audience and a panel of judges from PEACE, which will host the final slam and perform!

Catch Shrek the Musica and Fame the Musical, opening this week!

SOCASTEE PERFORMING ARTS PRESENTS AWARD-WINNING, SHREK, THE MUSICAL.

Myrtle Beach, SC – Socastee High School Performing Arts is pleased to announce a 4-day run of SHREK THE MUSICAL, March 6 – 9th. Based on the Oscar® winning DreamWorks film, the musical brings the hilarious story of everyone's favorite ogre, Shrek to dazzling new life on the stage. A faraway kingdom is turned upside down when an unseemly ogre, not a handsome prince, shows up to rescue a feisty princess. Throw in a donkey who won't shut up, a bad guy with a short temper, a cookie with an attitude and over a dozen other fairy tale creatures and you have entertainment for all ages.

The musical is directed by Farrah Beaudry, Socastee High School Choral Director and Matt Hayward, Socastee High School Drama Director. “Our amazingly talented cast and crew work literally, day and night to bring a stellar show to the stage.” stated Ms. Beaudry. Socastee’s Performing Arts department continues to grow and excel, receiving national accolades. With a cast and crew of nearly 100, the production showcases the thriving Performing Arts program.

Continuing the tradition of outstanding productions such as Tarzan, Legally Blonde and Seussical the Musical, Socastee Performing Arts continues to lead the way in high school theater.

Shrek the Musical will be performed at Socastee High School, 4900 Socastee Blvd, Myrtle Beach, SC. Show dates & times are: Thursday and Friday, March 6 & 7th: 7pm. Saturday and Sunday, March 8 – 9th: Matinees at 3pm; evening performances: 7pm. Tickets are $12 General Seating and $17 Reserved Seating and can be ordered at www.SocasteePerformingArts.com.
